Time, Peace, and Traveling

The hot sun was burning my skin. Hundreds of people are gathered at the beach today to watch the Corona Rincon Surf competition. I’m with my friends, we’re dragging a cooler filled with beer and other alcohol around the hot sand. We sit down, set-up shop and here we are, ready to enjoy as amazing surfers like Ricky Slim and Thiara Basso are shredding the waves. This is my first competition ever, I don’t understand why they’re doing it, but I can see the grace and feel their skill as they dance through the heavy sea. It’s truly a sight to behold.

From far away, we hear an announcer.

“Post your picture to our facebook page, and win this awesome surfboard sign by all the amazing surfers here today.”

What an opportunity?! I simply had to jump at the chance, something in my was calling to this. I had been working the whole week just to make enough money to be on this trip The car broke down 3 times on the 2 hour long ride but somehow, someway, as if by destiny we made it. I upload the picture.

“It’s up there baby, and we’re the second person to post. We’re gonna win this, I can feel it.”

Time passes and we continue to have fun, we drink, we smoke, we go on the water, we see the surfers. It’s a magical moment, as simple as that.

Have you ever felt like you were at the right place, exactly at the right time? That’s how I felt when they called my name.

Well… At first, they didn’t call my name. They called somebody else, we waited minutes with disappointment as we thought for sure our chances at winning this awesome price was going out the window, but just like that she said it.

“Ok, then so our first finalist is not here to claim the price, so there’s only one thing to do. Give it to somebody else. Antonio Rodriguez please come to the stage.”

Impossible.

Can’t believe it, is this happening?

“Did they say your name?” asks Erika.

“I won!” I scream.

“Why are you waiting?” asks Erika.

I run to the stage, hand them my id and I get this wonderful gift from life.

My day is now complete, I can die happy, I can die free. I’ve won. For the first time in my life, I feel it. I feel the beauty of the universe. I feel peaceful, happy, joyful. I feel perfect.

This magnificent experience taught me that sometimes you don’t need to spend 12 hours in your studio working to feel like you’re worth it. Sometimes all you gotta do is go have fun with the people you love and that love you. Life works in wonderful ways, all you have to do is enjoy each moment like the last. Try it out, maybe next time you’re out with friends life throws a little wink of love your way. Don’t close your mind, open your hear to the beautiful experience of living.
